ECO-DAD

ACT ON CO2

My dad was obsessed with turning things off. “Do you need this light on?” he’d ask, before plunging the room into darkness. Our house was always “like Blackpool Illuminations”. I thought of him when we got this brief to persuade people who’re sceptical about climate change to live a more environmentally-friendly life. If my dad had thought fighting climate change would save money on bills, he would have been all over it, suddenly.

Climate change messaging needs a lot of dialogue, so we asked Shane Meadows to shoot it, to bring the subject some much-needed fun and ordinariness. Shane said, kindly: "Apart from the fact that I really liked this campaign because it's funny and well written, I was also interested in making some films that might make a difference to the way people behave, I've no doubt about how serious the whole climate change issue is and no one can afford any longer to sit around and pretend it's not happening".

Eco-Dad won Best Green Online Campaign at the Green Web Awards, after coming top in a public vote. Thanks Dad.
